Resolved Question: Hint, tips, advice & feedback for planning a England, Wales, Scotland & Ireland in 2011?

Slowly planning an overseas trip with 2 girlfriends for 2011 - around the July/August/September period as we want to include the Edinburgh Tattoo. Has anyone flown Air Asia? I've heard good things, but wondered if it was too cheap and nasty?? Does anyone have any good website for travelling tips? I already use Trip Advisor to check out hotel reviews Whats the cheapest and easiest way to contact family whilst over there? Also, what's the best way to hook up to an internet connection to check emails etc? I'm looking at getting a little notebook (laptop) closer to the time of travel to take over there (know I need to take it on the plane and remove battery for going through check in/security etc). Any recommendations for a good notebook?? Also tips for travelling with it? Can anyone recommend accommodation they know of that do Triple Rooms or have 3 single beds? Not fussed how cheap it is - glad to economise here! Can't seem to find a search-able accommodation site where I can search by the number of beds per room - if you know of one that would be great!! Have looked at Travelodge which have great prices starting at 19 pounds per night but they don't seem to have triple rooms/snooze 3 separately, so we'd need to book 2 rooms. Not sure that it makes it a cheap option necessarily! Does anyone know any other cheap hotels/chains? I know there's a lot located in service centre places just off the highways - eg has accommodation, food, petrol stations Money saving ideas, and tips for travelling in the UK etc would also be very much appreciated. Last time we shopped at Tesco and made packed lunches so that saved a little. General international travel tips welcome too!!! thanks!!!!

Resolved Question: How do you force/fix the resolution of a laptop screen?

After coming out of snooze one day my laptop's screen resolution was changed from its native 1280x800 to 1024x768, and it is impossible for me to change it back. I have tried to change it via display settings, powerstrip, ati catalyst control middle, regedit, flashing the bios, updating my drivers, scanning for viruses, and updating windows. The problem is that my computer does not recognize that it can go up to 1280x800 anymore, as almost everything states that my system maxes out at 1024x768 - powerstrip does say though that my max resolution is 1280x800, but it will not allow me to use that setting. The guts: HP TouchSmart tx2 Notebook PC 4.00 GB RAM Windows Vista™ Home Premium (6.0, Build 6002) Service Pack 2 ATI Radeon HD 3200 Graphics DirectX 10 AMD Turion(tm) X2 Ultra Dual-Core Mobile ZM-85 (2 CPUs), ~2.3GHz Thanks in advance for any and every help.

Resolved Question: wireless networking problem?

I have a compaq presario c555nr notebook, it was bought in the states and I'm in germany. It's less than two years old. I'm trying to connect wireless internet to it and it won't work for some reason. When I connect the ethernet cable to the laptop directly it gets the internet fine, but when I try to go wireless, it connects to the modem/router but won't display any web pages. I have a modem/router combo and its from t-mobile, its a speedport w 303v, which I've been told are supposed to be pretty good. I've talked to support through hp and tks which is the internet supplier over here. Can anyone help me I'm getting really stessed over this because it will not work. The laptop is wpa compatable, which is the encryption I used. I've also tried wep and leaving the network completely open. Still won't work. In the network and sharing middle on vista it keeps telling me either- limited connectivety, or it say access- local only. Can anyone help me this is ridiculous. I'm not bill gates here but I know what I'm doing and it just won't work. I've returned the modem/router for a new one because I was suspicious it might be faulty. Still won't work. Any advice would be appreciated greatly. I don't mind a cord, but I'm tryin to set this up for the wife, she's pregnant and I would like it if she could be more comfortable while on the internet. Thanks to every who answer.

Could you tell me how good it's processor is? And I can't tell what nice of graphics card it would have? Thank you!

Voting Question: Weird Problem with Toshiba Laptop (CD-ROM Drive)?

Hi I have a Toshiba Notebook Satellite A105-S4334. I bought it 2 years and a half ago and is using Windows XP Media middle Edition. Works great. In the last 2 years I have just reformatted the difficult steer twice not because the Windows is not working properly, but as a way to have the information on the difficult steer well organized. The last time I reformatted the difficult steer was 6 days ago. And since that, every the programs (original) that comes with this notebook were reinstalled. Now the point is... 2 days ago when I clicked on my PC window I saw sometimes (randomly) the CD/DVD icon appear. Sometimes it doesnt, so it depends mainly if Windows is recognizing that or not. After I placed a CD or DVD sometimes the computer is detecting them, but sometimes do not. The most weird thing is that sometimes the CD/DVD icon is not shown in the My PC window, but when you place the CD even the indicator (led) flashes and the typical sound when the steer is reading a disc is heard. What would be the problem? Laptop Hardware? Windows? Should I need to replace that? Any suggestion? Thanks in advance.

Voting Question: hp laptop remote issue??

i have a hp pavilion dv4-1275mx notebook pc. os windows vista home premium 64 bit. it comes with a remote controller. everything used to work perfectly until this afternoon. i booted up the laptop and neither the mouse nor the keyboard was working. then somehow i got to the device manager and updated the drivers for the keyboard and then the keyboard and the mouse started to work fine. but then the remote started to have issues. only the media middle button, the quickplay button and the dvd button works. except for those, none of the others are working. even when i open up the media middle, they don't work. it seems like there is something wrong with the ir receiver. but i can't find anything related to ir receiver in the device manager. i think updating the ir receiver would solve this issue. but that's just me.... and just to let you know, when i go to hp customer care website, and enter my serial number, it says that they have stumbled upon something and they can't connect me to an hp customer assistant..... so any nice of suggestion would be helpful............ already contacted with hp several times, they have sent me a new remote control, but the same problem, and now they are telling me to restore my system.. don't know how helpful that would be.............. finally it is solved. turned out that the BIOS was causing the problem. soon as i updated the BIOS, the remote started working again............. thank u hp

Resolved Question: Who shall I say is my parent?

Me and my half brother Connor were out in a shopping middle. Well they had this big Apple store and we couldn't help ourselves, we both got this feeling in our hands, like we needed to touch something, well me and Connor went into the store and had a look around and he started to twitch at this flat screen TV, he was asking me for help to pick it up as it was heavy. I told him in a sec as I had seen a tiny notebook laptop so it just ended up in my hands. Connor had moved a box out from below the TV which had another TV inside, he moved it close to the door but we had both forgot to pray to our dad Hermes (the god of theifs) and our bad, we both got stopped by them security guards and they took us both to a room and asked us 'what is the name of your parents and what's their address' so I said Lord Hermes Mount Olympus up in the sky and now were both sat in a police station for attempted burglary. I know how stupid. Well they want our parents names and as my mom is in no way to talk to them and Connor doesn't have a mom we cant say oh really our dad is a god! can we p.s. I'm using the laptop I picked up (it was up my shirt) Oh no! I think one of the police is a fury! A kindly one!

Resolved Question: HP Pavillion Remote Control Does Not Work?

I have an HP Pavilion DV6700US Entertainment Notebook PC running Windows Vista Home Premium SP1. As you know, this laptop comes with Quick Play (QP) buttons over the keyboard as well as a remote control (model RC1762302/00). The laptop works fine, including the QP buttons. However, although I just inserted a brand new battery, the remote control does not work properly. To be clear, the DVD player works and I can launch Windows Media middle and every the other software with no problem from the laptop. The problem is with the remote. The remote is sending an IR signal to the laptop. I know this because the POWER (on/off) button on the remote does suspend the laptop. However, it is the only button on the remote which has any effect. None of the OTHER buttons on remote work. For example: The QP button does nothing. The DVD button does nothing. The Windows Media middle button does nothing. The volume and mute buttons do nothing. The arrow buttons do nothing. The OK button does nothing. But every of these fuunctions work perfectly when done on the laptop directly. I think you receive the point. I have tried to "reset" the remote by pressing what I think is the reset button over the battery. This has no effect. every I want to do is play DVDs on my laptop using the remote control. This seems to be a known problem, but is there is a known solution?!! Sending me to the HP Support website does not constitute an answer to my question. You can assume I'm smart enough to have tried that already an, further, that it was of no benefit.

Resolved Question: Anyone installed 'Windows 7' and had anyone problems, if so could you please explain?

I was lucky enough to receive the legitmate microsoft windows 7 software downloaded before it was withdrawn from public access, which was available here: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/beta-download.aspx It looks great from the demonstrations I've seen, although before I install the windows 7 OS, it would be good to look what issues I might possibly be confronted with and at least have some nice of direction on how to fix any issues that may crop up during my use of the OS. I am using a Hp pavillion entertainment PC dv6113tx or notebook/laptop and will essentially be upgrading from windows vista home premium, which I am very glad with, although I want something a little more.....entertaining ;) I use the following equipment with my laptop: - HP deskjet F4185, - Maxtor one touch 750 GB 4 plus, - Maxtor one touch III mini (100GB) - Maxtor one touch III (100GB) - Compaq presario MV500 (for a second monitor) - Nokia 6110 - Nokia 6280 - Iphone - Ipod nano - HP pavillion webcam I use the following software. - Microsoft student - Microsoft office - Nokia map manager - Nokia PC suite - AOL - ePreserver - HP solution middle - HP Photosmart essential - Picassa 3 - Logitech harmony remote - Microsoft works - Maxtor manager - iTunes - Mozilla firefox 3 beta 4 - Quickplay - Safari - Snapfish Picture Mover - Google chrome - Avi movie player - Limewire pro - Allok MOV convertor - Irfanview - Norton 360 (version 2) - Windows mail Has anyone had any problems using the over listed hardware and software? Any general problems related to OS exclusively would also be appreciated! Cheers Igloo

Resolved Question: Which notebook should i get?!?!?!?!?!?

Hey, okay so I'm in need for a new laptop because my current Dell laptop has a broken trackpad. I have narrowed it down to 3 notebooks. The first one is a Dell Inspiron 1525(link below). HP Dv5z(link below), and a HP Dv2000us?(i think thats the name of it!) Anyways, they every have the pretty much the same specs, with the exception of the HP Pavillions which include a webcam and Lightscribe(both of which i will not use). Also the HP's have NVidia graphics, but i won't be playing much games at every. The Dell has a very nice design and it is lightweight and slim, much so are the HP's. The Dell I can receive for a lower price, but will it be worth it? I will be taking this notebook to school for doing slideshow presentations and schoolwork and "homework" lol. It will also be part of my entertainment middle meaning that i will hook it up to my plasma-screen tv sometimes and use it on that. Also, the Dell features a HDMI port on the side, whereas the HP's don't. And the Dell has 4 USB ports and has a 8-in-1 card reader. They every have 15.4 inch glossy screens, except the HP Dv2000 that has a 14.1 inch glossy screen. I basically want a notebook that has 2 gigs of RAM, 160 GB difficult steer, Vista Premium, cd/dvd burner, dual-core processor, and it has to be light(6 lbs or lighter) and it has to have a slim profile. Thanks in advance and please no harassing answers! http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?... http://www.shopping.hp.com/series/catego... P.S. I already have a external USB mouse that is currently working, but I'd rather use a touchpad at school and while traveling. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8878002&type=product&id=1210379087572 http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/shopping/computer_can_series.do?storeName=computer_store&category=notebooks&a1=From+price&v1=%24500-%24800&series_name=dv5z_series

Voting Question: Windows Movie Maker crashes upon startup, please help.?

All right, unless there's something I'm missing here, this is a question for the real pros. Some background info: I'm using Windows XP SP2 Media middle Edition on an HP Pavilion Entertainment PC Notebook. The version of Movie Maker is 2.0. I know that Movie Maker hates MPEGs, but today I stupidly tried to import an MPEG movie in order to convert it to WMV (I didn't have STOIK on my laptop at the time, but have since downloaded it). As expected, WMM (Windows Movie Maker) immediately crashed and had to close down. Fine, that's what I figured would happen. But now EVERY time I start the program, I instantly receive the "Windows Movie Maker has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." I can ignore that popup for a moment and even mess around in the program, but after about a minute it freezes up. Anyway, is there a way for me to fix this? System Restore doesn't work (in that it won't restore to any of the System Restore points). It would be helpful if I could reinstall WMM, but that does not seem reasonably possible. Yes, for those of you who don't know, you *cannot* reinstall/uninstall WMM through "Add or Remove Programs." I downloaded an installer for WWM 2.0, but I'm afraid to delete every traces of the current version and try reinstalling... I could also try reinstalling Windows Service Pack 2, but I don't know what repurcussions there might be, or if it would solve the problem. I have read one way to reinstall WMM, but it requires a Windows XP or SP2 installation CD, and I don't have either, since Windows XP came preloaded on my computer and the backup is in a harddrive partition. I've Googled my question to death :) Everyone who asks seems not to receive an effective answer, except for those who happen to have the Windows XP installation CD. I've tried downloading the file from Windows Update, but it is not even listed as a download option for me. I downloaded the installer from Download.com, and ran the installation, but it did not change anything.

Resolved Question: How do I make Dell Webcam Center recognize a different webcam, not the one built in?

I just got a Dell Inspirion notebook and it comes with a built in Creative Live! Cam, well I don't want to use that one bc it's only 2 MP. I want to use the one I have that plugs in. So I uninstalled the Creative one and installed the one I have, well the Dell Webcam middle is giving me this message about how I don't have the correct webcam driver installed. How do I make the Dell Webcam middle recognize any webcam I install on my computer, and not just the one that comes with the laptop?

Resolved Question: Which Laptop for college?

Greetings. I need to receive a laptop for college that has a pretty good battery life on it so I can use it for each class. Should I receive this http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/shopping/store_access.do;HHOJSID=LKvGJrkDLfvpdK9hMh2VBW9xMTpp3TRsPXk57L9q7CyNQhM1l5Xr!872503078?template_type=series_detail&category=notebooks&series_name=G70t_series&jumpid=in_r329_ad_landing/notebooks/center_tiles/2 Or this? http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/shopping/computer_can_series.do?storeName=computer_store&category=notebooks&a1=Category&v1=Everyday+computing&series_name=dv5tse_series And again, I want a sweet battery but I know nothing about batteries so should I receive a 6 Cell Lithium Ion Battery, a High Capacity 6 Cell Lithium Ion Battery, a 12 Cell Lithium Ion Battery, or One 6 Cell and One 12 Cell Lithium Ion Batteries? How many hours would you estimate that each battery lasts? It says on the website that the high capacity 6 cell lithium Ion battery lasts up to 3 1/2 hours ( I need more than that).

Resolved Question: Company rejects my Laptop Warranty with NO solid evidence, what can i do to fight?

Hi every, I am from Malaysia. Cutting the story short. I have recently sent my @cer Laptop to the service centre due to unable to switch on. They have told me that my motherboard had burn marks on it, and they assumed it was caused by Lightning Strike or Power Surge, which is below section B and clause 1.9 of the @cer Warranty Booklet. @cer do not covered any damage which is caused by natural disaster or Acts of God. They have sent me a report. Here is what they've said: Model: @cer Aspire AS4736G-654G32MN Serial Number: LXPG30X001928040E81601 CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T6600 RAM: 4gb ddr2 Graphic Card: Nvidia Geforce 512mb vram Reported Problem Symptom: SF45 - CAN'T POWER ON SYSTEM Diagnosis Report 1. During the diagnostic stage, the system was detected no display and car off by itself. 2. Disassembled the notebook, found capacitor/resistor was damaged and burn mark around the area Due to the damage components and burn area are located after and directly joint to the RJ45 connector. below this condition, we can conclude that the damage was caused by external factor and mostly it’s from the high voltage surge through the RJ45 connector. below section B and clause 1.9 of the @cer Warranty Booklet. @cer do not covered any damage which is caused by natural disaster or Acts of God. I am an NGO worker and using my Laptop as an educational material to tutor people with learning disability and also to lift awareness in schools and public. I was asked to pay RM700 (which is a lot) to replace it. But i have denied and demanded more evidence. They suggested to me to send it to Taiwan for experts to check on it but every the expenses will be paid by me. Again, i denied. The case is pending. I am gathering materials to support my case in Tribunal for Consumer Rights. What can i do to battle? Any specific procedures the Service middle/technician must do to tell whether it is caused by Lightning strike/power surge? Or are they just doing a basic check-up, thus guessing the problem? Is this even possible? Please i need your help. PS: I DID NOT turn on my Laptop on that day. Morning was working fine but when came back from work, Laptop couldn't start anymore. It was not plugged in and it was in my bag in the home. I am using a 3-plugged extension socket (for Modem, @cer Laptop Adapter and Handphone Charger). Socket is perfectly fine as well as the others. As i remember it correctly, it was a clear evening weather. Thank You Fendi

Resolved Question: How can I make my DSL better/faster? Is my set-up bad?

We have AT&T and just got our Linksys WRT54GS (2.5 GHz) router finally working the other day after a year of no luck with getting it successfully hooked up. Since hooking it up, we attached 2 laptops and a Wii to its network. Our "High-Speed" DSL has always seemed quite slow (I'm actually using our Dial-Up right now to send this question) and now that I'm starting college I'm finding that I really need to use E-Mail a LOT and just internet in general. It takes me about 30 minutes just to check one of my E-Mail accounts (I have my main, my college one, and one for a certain class) and it's frustrating having to find time in my day to spend so much time sitting on a screen or checking back every 5 minutes. Here's the main concern/question... Is there a way to make my DSL faster and not have to spend so much money? Could it possibly be our computer (desktop) that causes the slowness? My family is currently going through a rough time with money over a huge issue going on right now, so we can't afford the high prices of Comcast. I plan to start saving $400 a month after I pay off these last $225 for my laptop I just got almost a month ago, and I'm so frustrated that I'm willing to buy whatever equipment I may need when I keep up enough money. Our desktop that the router is hooked up to is... 2002 Gateway, Inc. Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 1.60GHz 1.59 GHz, 256 MB of RAM with Windows XP SP2 and the screen is a FPD1520 (just adding the screen info. in case it's recommended that I by a new tower or computer and should be fine with the monitor/screen I have). My mom's laptop that is connected to the wireless network is a HP Pavilion Media middle dv5139us Notebook PC with an AMD Turion 64 Mobile Processor ML-37 (2.0GHz, 1MB L2 cache) 2048MB system memory, 120GB difficult steer. She got this about 2 years ago. My laptop I just got is an HP Pavilion dv6-1259dx Notebook PC with Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Duo processor P7350 (2.0 GHz), 500GB difficult steer, etc. My laptop runs the internet a bit faster and better than my mom's laptop and our desktop, but that's probably somewhat expected. It's still extremely slow, though. Could it be our desktop that causes the internet to be so slow on it and the others and create such bad connection? Or is DSL simply just that bad? A lot of people I talk to with DSL seem to have it better than we do, it's not nearly as slow as ours... What can I do? Thanks in advance for those who can help or offer some nice of advice!

Resolved Question: Alienware Vs Macbook?

I've been going crazy trying to figure out which laptop is a better value, the two I'm comparing are the Area 52 m15x http://www.alienware.com/products/area-51-m15x-notebook.aspx?SysCode=PC-LT-AREA51M15X-AI1&SubCode=SKU-DEFAULT (specs) and the aluminum Macbook http://www.apple.com/macbook/specs.html For the m15x I've decided to pick the, NVIDIA GeForce 8700M GT 250 GB difficult steer 7,200RPM (8MB Cache) 15.4" WideUXGA 1920 x 1200 LCD (1200p) Intel® Core™2 Duo Processors 2.1 GHz (3MB Cache, 800MHz FSB) Windows Vista® Home Premium 64-bit 4GB« Dual Channel DDR2 SO-DIMM at 667MHz – 2 x 2048MB Total Price: $1649.00 For the Macbook, I'm choosing the cheapest aluminum one http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/shop_mac/family/macbook It's the one on the far left, but with some changes like 4GB 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x2GB 250GB Serial ATA steer @ 5400 rpm Final Total: $1474.00 This laptop will mainly be used for web browsing, some gaming, DVD, Word processor, basically something that will last me my whole college career and then some. I know some of my upgrades are unnecessary but i really don't know what the future brings so I decided to just go a little high-end. From what i can tell the Alienware is the better deal, with a 15 in screen rather then a 13 in, as well as the added AlienFX Lighting, AlienSense security, and Alien Fusion (http://www.alienware.com/products/notebooks/area-51_m15x/more_info/more-infos-command-middle.html) the Mac may have a better graphics card and whatnot, but I'm still leaning towards Alien. This is NOT about the software. I don't care whether its OS X or Vista, this is a purely hardware issue. Since I'm turning 18 in a couple months and I'm using entirely my possess money, i want to be sure this laptop is good, and good to last 4-5 years at least. Any help or advice you could bring to help me reach a more definitive answer would be greatly appreciated.

Resolved Question: How do I connect my Dell Studio 15 labtop to my LCD TV?

I cannot seem to receive my brand new Dell Studio 15 laptop with a Radeon Mobil 4570, to connect to my Broksonic 32” CCVG-3276 LCD TV properly. I have searched through to online support items without any success. Another problem I seem to be having is that the online support chat page does not want to load on my laptop. every other websites work fine, but after I fill out my info on the page before the chat I click start session, then the page comes up and after a few minutes tells me I have connection problems. Then I click diagnose connection problems and Windows tells me that there is no problem. This problem is secondary to me getting the connection from the laptop to the TV though. I know that the HDMI cable is good, because it is the same cable that we use from the cable box to the TV. I am also using the same input from the laptop to the TV as we do with the cable box. So, I know I have the TV on the correct input. I also know that the input on the TV works fine as well, because when connected to the cable box the picture comes up fine. I know that I have the latest drivers for the Radeon Mobil 4570. I downloaded them directly from the ATI website just to be sure. I think that it was supposed to have been preloaded on the laptop, but when the trouble started I downloaded and installed them. I know that the laptop recognizes the TV when the HDMI cable is connected, because it comes up as “ORION” along with the laptop monitor in the devices menu of the catalyst control middle. I have it set to duel display, so that both the laptop and TV should have the same screen. Also, I know that the “ORION” device is the TV, because when I disconnect the HDMI cable from the laptop it disappears. I also know that the TV recognized the signal from the laptop, because whenever I restart the computer the screen that has the Dell symbol as well as the load bar at the bottom when it just starts to boot up shows on both the TV screen and the laptop screen. However, as soon as the windows screen starts to load the TV goes black, and the laptop continues to have picture and load like usual. This television has been hooked to a laptop before. My girlfriend has a Mac book that she connects to the TV on a regular basis. I’ve copied the specifications for both the TV and the laptop below; you will also find my dell customer (108987651)and purchase numbers (2001646186425)as well. The service tag (4TCSKL1) is at the top of the laptop specification. If you could please offer some advice I would be very appreciative. Resolved Question: Which version of Windows do I have and which one should I install?

I have a Toshiba notebook with a sticker on the bottom for windows xp media edition 2005 with a cd key. When i check my system properties it says i have media middle 2002 and it has a different cd key underneat it. Should i just copy the cd key out of system properties and reinstall 2002 or install 2005 and try the cd key i have on the laptop? Note that there are TWO options here. I dont want to hear anything about vista or windows 7 and linux or whatever you nerds use nowaday... I was going to reformat my laptop since ive had it for a while. It wasnt until then that i noticed that my laptop sticker said 2005 and the system properties said i was running 2002..
